October 2, 2026The Budget Division of the Ministry of Finance today officially launched its observance of Pinktober – Breast Cancer Awareness Month by reaffirming its commitment to promoting health awareness, early detection, and staff’s wellbeing.
The event brought staff together in support of breast cancer awareness, with participants wearing pink and attending an informative health awareness session focused on the importance of early detection, regular medical screenings and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
The Division was honoured to welcome Dr. Sajneel Prasad and Dr. Jope Makutu of CWM Hospital, together with Mrs. Faktaufon, as special guests for the event. During the session, both Dr. Prasad and Dr. Makutu shared valuable insights on breast cancer awareness, emphasising the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and seeking timely medical attention. He encouraged staff to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health and wellbeing.
Staff were also inspired by Mrs. Faktaufon’s personal journey and testimony, which highlighted the importance of resilience, hope, and early intervention. Her story served as a powerful reminder of the impact that awareness, support, and timely medical care can have on individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
While the Budget Division’s primary responsibility is to support the Government’s fiscal and budget management objectives, it recognises that the health and wellbeing of its staff are equally important. The Pinktober initiative provided an opportunity for staff to step away from their daily responsibilities, engage in meaningful discussions, and strengthen their understanding of an issue that affects many individuals and families.
The Ministry of Finance acknowledges the valuable support of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in facilitating the awareness session and extends its sincere appreciation to Dr Jope Makutu and Dr Sajneel Prasad for sharing his expertise and knowledge with staff.
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins, the Ministry encourages all Fijians to support efforts that promote prevention, early detection, and access to timely medical care. Together, we can continue to build healthier workplaces, families, and communities while supporting those impacted by breast cancer.
