Accounting Heads Forum Reinforces Accountability and Service Delivery
November 3, 2026The Government is strengthening its support for the Pacific Fishing Company Limited (PAFCO) through a proposed additional $20 million Government guarantee to support the company’s capital investment programme and long-term growth.
Moving the motion in Parliament yesterday, the Minister for Finance Hon. Esrom Immanuel said the guarantee would enable PAFCO to modernise and upgrade its plant, processing equipment and infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, increase production capacity and meet international food safety and quality standards.
PAFCO, a 99.6 percent Government-owned enterprise based in Levuka, employs between 870 and 1,000 workers, with women making up more than 60 percent of its workforce.
The additional guarantee will bring the total Government guarantee ceiling for PAFCO to approximately $31.3 million, providing greater financing flexibility as the company transitions towards a more diversified business model and strengthens its local and international markets.
Minister Immanuel reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting PAFCO through its current challenges, safeguarding employment and strengthening the company’s long-term financial sustainability and contribution to Fiji’s economy.
