The Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to responsible fiscal management and long-term economic transformation while delivering the keynote address at the Dialogue Fiji Post-Budget Forum in Suva on Wednesday.
Addressing the forum on the theme “Examining the 2026–2027 Budget,” the Minister said the 2026–2027 National Budget, themed “A Responsible Budget for a Sustainable Future,” was deliberately designed to protect households from rising living costs, maintain essential public services without increasing taxes and continue investing in critical infrastructure that will drive future economic growth.
He said the Budget reflects responsible decision-making during a period of global economic uncertainty while laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient Fiji.
The Minister also stressed the importance of open and constructive dialogue on national issues, noting that forums such as these help improve public understanding of Government’s fiscal priorities and the difficult policy choices required in preparing the National Budget.
Following the keynote address, Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary, Mr Shiri Gounder, joined other panellists in an interactive discussion, responding to questions from representatives of the private sector, civil society, development partners, the media and members of the public on key measures contained in the 2026–2027 National Budget.
