Fiji’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient transport gained momentum with the launch of the 6th generation Toyota RAV4, as the Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, underscored the critical role of hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles in advancing the country’s climate and development agenda.
The launch, held at the Sheraton Resort Convention Centre on 28 April 2026 and hosted by Asco Motors Fiji, highlighted continued private sector investment in sustainable mobility solutions.
Minister Immanuel acknowledged Asco Motors’ commitment to bringing globally trusted automotive innovation to Fiji, noting that advancements in hybrid and fuel-efficient technologies align with national priorities under Vision 2030 and 2050—particularly in reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.
He emphasised that the evolution of the RAV4—from a compact SUV to a modern, comfort-driven and technologically advanced vehicle—reflects broader global trends toward sustainability and smarter mobility solutions, contributing to safer and more efficient travel.
Highlighting Government’s partnership with Asco Motors since 2008, the Minister said improvements in vehicle reliability and fleet management have enhanced public service delivery. He also signalled Government’s interest in exploring hybrid vehicle integration within its fleet to reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions.
Reaffirming Fiji’s leadership in climate advocacy, including its presidency of COP23, Minister Immanuel stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable solutions and supporting the country’s long-term net-zero ambitions.
