
Leadership Must Drive Fiji’s Economic Transformation, Says Finance Minister
August 10, 2026Minister for Finance Hon. Esrom Immanuel received a courtesy visit from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative and Director of the Pacific Sub-Regional Office, Ms. Bidisha Pillai, reaffirming the organisation’s continued partnership and support for Fiji’s national development priorities.
The visit focused on UNFPA’s ongoing support to the Government of Fiji and its work in the region, guided by the principles of the International Conference on Population and Development.
Key areas of UNFPA’s work in Fiji include preventing maternal deaths, promoting family planning, ending gender-based violence, and strengthening population data to support evidence-based policy and planning.
Minister Immanuel acknowledged UNFPA’s continued support to Fiji and emphasised the importance of strong development partnerships that complement Government’s priorities and contribute to better outcomes for women, young people and vulnerable communities.
