The Ministry of Finance today bid a heartfelt farewell to Head of Budget, Nemia Dawai, and Head of Procurement, Saimoni Veramu, recognising their years of dedicated service and significant contributions to the Ministry and the nation.
During a brief ceremony attended by colleagues and senior officials, both leaders were commended for their commitment, professionalism, and steady leadership through challenging periods.
Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, together with Permanent Secretary Shiri Gounder, acknowledged their lasting contributions, noting that their knowledge, leadership, and service will continue to have a positive impact on the Ministry’s work.
They also reflected on the unique experience of serving within the Ministry, highlighting its critical role in safeguarding national interests and strengthening Fiji’s economic foundation.
Mr Veramu expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve, emphasising the depth and diversity of experience he gained in government, particularly in comparison to his extensive private sector career. He noted that his eight years in public service had been both challenging and rewarding.
Mr Dawai also shared his gratitude for a lifelong career in public service, thanking ministers, colleagues, and staff for their support and the opportunities provided to him. He described his tenure as a “blessed journey,” acknowledging the personal and professional growth he experienced during his time in the Ministry.
Both departing leaders took the opportunity to apologise for any shortcomings and extended their best wishes to the Ministry moving forward.
Staff members also conveyed their appreciation and wished them well in their future endeavours as they transition to new opportunities and spend more time with their families.
