The Government of Fiji has reaffirmed its strong and enduring partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) following high-level discussions focused on infrastructure development, fiscal sustainability and regional cooperation.
The Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, yesterday afternoon received ADB President Masato Kanda and delegation upon his arrival at Nausori International Airport for a one-day official visit to Fiji.
President Kanda arrived from Port Vila and was accorded official courtesies on arrival.
During bilateral discussions, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing Fiji’s development priorities. Talks centred on strengthening infrastructure delivery, including energy transition initiatives, water and sanitation systems, and transport connectivity, while ensuring affordability and long-term sustainability.
Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing project implementation capacity and mobilising innovative financing solutions to support Fiji’s national development agenda. The Government highlighted the importance of aligning infrastructure investments with fiscal responsibility and resilience-building efforts, especially in the face of climate-related challenges.
ADB reiterated its commitment to supporting Fiji’s role as a regional hub for the Pacific and to working closely with the Coalition Government to promote inclusive economic growth, private sector development and strengthened institutional capacity.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to maintain close engagement and deepen cooperation across priority sectors, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Fiji and ADB in driving sustainable and inclusive development outcomes for the nation and the wider Pacific region.
