Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Hon. Esrom Immanuel this morning welcomed the visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission team to the Ministry of Finance, marking the start of a week-long round of consultations with key Government and economic institutions.
The delegation is led by Mission Chief Mr. Alasdair Scott, accompanied by Mr. Matteo Ghilardi, Senior Economist, and Mr. Shivneel Kirpal, Economist at the IMF’s Pacific Regional Office.
Hon. Immanuel emphasised Fiji’s strong relationship with the IMF, acknowledging the Fund’s continued support in strengthening economic management and resilience.
“We truly appreciate the strong partnership we have had with the IMF over the years,” he said.
“Your policy advice has played an important role in stabilising our economy, and we look forward to working together toward sustainable and inclusive growth.”
The Minister also provided an overview of Fiji’s ongoing economic recovery and fiscal progress, noting the encouraging pickup in economic activity and the Government’s commitment to reform.
He said the mission would provide an important platform for open and constructive dialogue.
“I look forward to productive discussions throughout the week as we refine our economic outlook and advance our key reform priorities,” Hon. Immanuel said.
The IMF team will continue meetings with the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Government agencies and other stakeholders before concluding its review.
