Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel is currently in India as part of the Coalition Government’s efforts to strengthen and deepen collaboration with India on areas of mutual interest and further deepen the engagement between the two countries.
Hon. Immanuel met the Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, where the two leaders acknowledged the deep historical relationship shared by the two countries and the need to further strengthen this long standing relationship further. Hon. Margherita reaffirmed India’s willingness to support Fiji in areas of healthcare, e-governace and digitization, agricultural development, cultural exchanges, education and skill development, trade and further strengthening our people to people ties.
As part of the Ministerial visits, Hon. Immanuel also held productive discussions with the CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Sh. Bhuvnesh Kumar, the Chairman and Managing Director of the National Small Industries Corporation of India, Dr. Subhransu Sekhar Acharya, the Controller General of Accounts of the Ministry of Finance, Ms. T.C.A. Kalyani as well as a delegation from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The meetings further discussed areas of collaboration between Fiji and India to support digital transformation and economic development.
Hon. Immanuel met Apollo Hospital executives in Delhi to discuss potential collaboration in tertiary heath care access for Fijians. Later today he will officiate the MIOT 27th Founder’s Day celebration in Chennai India. Fiji and India has had a long relationship in healthcare with thousands of Fijians travelljng to India to access tertiary medical care. With MIOT’s expansion in Fiji managing cardic care at the Lautoka Hospital in partnership with Aspen, Fiji is looking for more closer partnership with the Indian private health care providers to transform Fiji health service deleivery.
Fiji-India partnership is not only built on our historical relationship but strengthened with our common values of democracy, freedom, mutual respect and social justice.
