The Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, welcomed a delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to advance discussions following Fiji’s recent selection by the MCC Board as eligible to develop a compact.
The MCC is an independent United States Government agency that partners with countries demonstrating strong commitments to good governance, economic freedom, and investments in their people. The agency provides time-bound grants aimed at supporting countries in achieving their key development priorities.
The MCC delegation, led by Mr. Ryan Johnson, will be in Fiji from 4–10 December 2025 to commence collaborative work with the Government of Fiji on identifying the binding constraints to economic growth. During the mission, the team will meet with representatives from government ministries, the private sector, and civil society organisations to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping private-sector development in Fiji. The outcomes of this visit will inform the development and design of a feasible compact programme aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and reducing poverty.
Hon. Immanuel expressed his appreciation to the United States Government and extended his gratitude to the MCC for selecting Fiji as eligible for compact development. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to providing the necessary support throughout the compact development phase and eventual implementation.
