The Price Monitoring and Enforcement Taskforce continued its pre-festive season inspections across the Central Division from 11 to 12 December 2025, following earlier inspections in the Western Division from 8 to 9 December.
The Central Division inspections covered supermarkets from Navua to Korovou Town and were conducted by the Taskforce comprising the Ministry of Finance, Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) and the Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF).
Inspections across both the Western and Central Divisions uncovered a number of serious breaches by several supermarkets, providing clear evidence that some retailers are failing to meet the standards required under the law.
Notices have been issued for the following violations in the Central Division:
- Failure to display correct price labels, including missing or misleading pricing information.
- Expired products found on shelves, posing significant health and safety risks to consumers.
- Misleading promotional practices, where items advertised as being “on special” were charged at normal prices despite discounted prices being displayed.
- Quality of frozen fruits and vegetables not meeting expected standards.
Monitoring will continue next week in the Northern Division, with a firm focus on ensuring full compliance with consumer protection regulations.
The Ministry of Finance and its Taskforce partners reaffirm their commitment to protecting Fijian families from unfair trading practices and ensuring all retailers uphold the standards required by law.
