The Minister for Finance, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, today welcomed the European Union Ambassador to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Barbara Plinkert, during a courtesy visit to his office.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and longstanding partnership between Fiji and the European Union, particularly through the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). The EPA continues to support Fiji’s economic development by encouraging investment, boosting exports, and strengthening key sectors such as agriculture and fisheries.
Discussions also focused on the EU’s existing Budget Support for climate change, which requires close coordination with the Ministry of Finance. The Minister acknowledged the importance of ongoing programs that contribute to strengthening trade systems, improving infrastructure, and enhancing overall economic management.
Additionally, both parties explored potential gateway projects aligned with the Fijian Government’s national priorities and emerging needs aimed at improving resilience and economic development.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued partnership and support toward Fiji’s development goals.
